This is a special milepost cast for the Trent & Mersey Canal Society to
commemorate two hundred and fifty years of the canal. |
The dedication plate shows that the milepost was unveiled by
the Duchess of Devonshire in January 1985. |
The milepost is sited alongside Derwent Mouth lock, a few hundred yards
from the confluence of the canal and the river Trent. This River Derwent also meets the Trent
at this point (hence the name Derwent Mouth lock). This view looks down to the river from the
opposite side of the lock to the towpath. |
