This is an original milepost and the last one to stand alongside the canal itself.
Further on, the canal passes through Dutton Stop Lock, the final lock on the canal.
It then enters Preston Brook Tunnel which is around two-thirds of a mile long.
By the time it emerges into daylight again, it has become the Bridgewater Canal.
