Milepost 80 ~ Gadbrook Farm

Link to picture of milepost This is a replacement milepost found alongside bridge 181 and near to Gadbrook Farm.
Link to Stop PLank Store It stands next to another good example of a stop-plank store. Stop planks are used to secure sections of canal by dropping them into grooves set in the canal bank at points where it narrows, such as bridge holes.
Link to view from bridge 181 This allows stretches to be drained for repair work to be carried out, or to be secured in the event of a breach.
Link to rear of milepost Due to the salt mining carried out in this area, the landscape is liable to subsidence and this can cause breaches.
