This is an original milepost. It is situated north of Whatcroft on the stretch
of canal where it heads east as it parts company with the Dane valley.
The collection of houses and farm buildings that make up Whatcroft are the only
signs of civilisation alongside the canal in the four miles from Croxton
aqueduct to Rudheath, on the outskirts of Northwich.
