This milepost is found between two sets of locks north-west of Church Lawton.
The locks along this stretch are all pairs of locks set side by side. In the
1830's, the canal company added the second, parallel locks to speed the flow
of traffic along this stretch.
However, most of the sets along here now have only one working lock, as the
second has been allowed to fall into disrepair.
