Milepost 37 ~ Little Haywood

Link to picture of milepost This is another of the replacement mileposts. The land to the south-west is now part of Shugborough Park and the Shugborough Estate.
Link to ... A little further on, the canal passes under a decorative iron bridge. This was built to carry a private road from the Hall to the church in Great Haywood but the section across the river has been removed and the bridge now leads nowhere.
Link to ... A little further on, the hall can be seen from the canal. The River Trent runs alongside the canal and, just before Haywood Lock is reached, there is access to the Essex Bridge, which is an old packhorse bridge and Scheduled Ancient Monument crossing the river at its confluence with the River Sow.
