Milepost 28 ~ Shaw Lane (Bridge 55)

This is a replacement milepost. It is slightly unusual in that the dedication plate for it is located on the wall above milepost 25 at Fradley Junction.

This is the last rural milepost until the canal emerges from the western edge of Rugeley in another six miles.

The dedication plate itself is found alongside the dedication plate for milepost 25 at Fradley Junction. The text on the plate reads as follows:

THE MILEPOST EAST OF HANDSACRE
WAS DONATED
IN MEMORY OF JOHN H. THEAKSTON
WHO DIED ON 30^THJUNE 1973
BY HIS FRIEND BRIAN AND MOIRA JONES
REPLACED BY THE
TRENT & MERSEY CANAL SOCIETY
AND UNVEILED BY THOSE TWO FRIENDS
ON SUNDAY 6^THFEBRUARY 1983
