This is the most easterly of the mileposts that have been replaced by the Trent & Mersey Canal
Society. Unfortunately, the dedication plate that accompanies all the restored mileposts has
been vandalised in this case and removed.
|
The milepost is near to the village of Barrow-upon-Trent and stands directly opposite the road
between Barrow and Sinfin where it runs alongside the canal. It is fairly equally placed between
Barrow Bridge and Deep Dale Bridge (numbers 16 and 17).
|
Although the dedication plate has been removed, a copy of Grand Trunk (the magazine
of the Trent and Mersey Canal Society) from November 1981 reveals that this post
was unveiled on Sunday August 30th "in the name of Clayton Line Ltd. by local farmer
and TV personality Ted Moult."
