This is located a few hundred yards upstream from Swarkestone lock.It is close to an old wharf
and the crane that would have been used has been restored (there is a similar crane in Shardlow).

Just above Swarkestone lock is a basin which marks the junction with the now disused Derby canal.
Above the milepost, there used to be a branch which linked the canal with the Trent just above
Swarkestone Bridge, but this was closed quite soon after it was opened due to lack of use.
Signs of where it ran can still be seen on the field below the canal. It also explains the hump
in the road as drivers from Barrow approach the junction at Swarkestone.
